On September 25, 2021, Roland Chalmous Hopewell, aged 36, was tragically shot and killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The incident occurred outside GM Tobacco on Minnehaha Avenue. According to reports, Hopewell was with his girlfriend, who was pregnant with his child, and her infant child when the shooting took place. The couple was leaving the store when they were confronted by Myshun Steven Cason Logan, aged 35, who is the ex-boyfriend of Hopewell's girlfriend and the father of her child.
Logan arrived at the scene in a red Kia Sorento and, after a brief confrontation, pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and fired multiple shots at Hopewell. Surveillance footage confirmed the sequence of events, showing Logan threatening the couple before opening fire. Hopewell was found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Prior to the shooting, Logan had allegedly assaulted Hopewell and threatened to kill both Hopewell and his ex-girlfriend. These threats were corroborated by text messages found on the woman's phone. Despite the issuance of a warrant for his arrest, Logan initially remained at large, with his last known location being in Illinois.
Logan was eventually apprehended and faced second-degree murder charges for the death of Roland Chalmous Hopewell. In December 2024, Logan pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. This case highlights the tragic consequences of domestic disputes and the devastating impact of gun violence on families and communities.
