In the pre-dawn hours of February 2, 2022, Amir Locke, a 22-year-old Black male, was asleep on a couch in a downtown Minneapolis apartment. He was not a resident of the apartment but was staying with his cousin. A Minneapolis Police Department SWAT team was outside the door, tasked with executing a no-knock search warrant connected to a homicide investigation from the neighboring city of St. Paul. Amir Locke himself was not a suspect in this investigation, nor was his name listed on the warrant.
