Eloe Aki Ameen Lomax was a 23-year-old Black man from Minneapolis who had an interest in music. Remembered by some as a joker and a ladies' man, his life was cut short in the spring of 2022.
On the evening of April 27, 2022, Lomax was the victim of a fatal drive-by shooting in the city's Folwell neighborhood. Just before 6 p.m., Minneapolis police officers responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of North 33rd Avenue and Knox Avenue North.
They arrived to find Lomax inside a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he did not survive his injuries. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled his death a homicide. It was the 28th homicide to occur in Minneapolis that year.
The investigation into the shooting soon uncovered evidence that it was connected to an ongoing and violent rivalry between two Minneapolis groups known as the "Highs" and the "Lows." Authorities learned that Lomax was known to be associated with the "Highs" and believed his killing was carried out by an associate of the rival "Lows" group.
As part of the wider investigation into the gang conflict, police identified Deijuan Anthony McCaleb-Robinson, a man known to work with the "Lows," as a suspect in a separate but related double homicide that occurred just over two weeks after Lomax was killed. In connection with Eloe Lomax's death, a defendant later entered into a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder by drive-by shooting. With this plea, the case is considered solved.
