In the evening hours of September 8, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace at the intersection of Knox and Plymouth avenues in Minneapolis. When police, alerted by a ShotSpotter activation and multiple 911 calls, arrived at the scene on the 1600 block of Plymouth Avenue North around 8:15 p.m., they found a teenager suffering from gunshot wounds.
First responders rendered aid to the young male, identified as 16-year-old Jeremiah Kionell Durr, a Black/African American resident of Jordan, Minnesota.
Jeremiah was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died at the hospital. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later confirmed that the cause of his death was a gunshot wound. The shooting that claimed his life was part of a violent night in Minneapolis, with several other shooting incidents occurring within hours, injuring multiple people and resulting in another fatality.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Minneapolis police launched a homicide investigation, which marked the city's 61st of the year. Investigators processed the scene for evidence and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of those responsible for Jeremiah's death.
