In the early morning hours of June 11, 2023, a young Black man named DaeVonn LeQuinn Howell, aged 21, was fatally shot in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. The incident occurred outside the Flava of Soul restaurant, located in a strip mall on Edinburgh Centre Drive.
According to reports, police were called to the scene at approximately 4:08 a.m. following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered two victims.
One individual had been shot at but was not injured, while Howell had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. First responders rushed Howell to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale. Tragically, he was pronounced dead in the operating room just after 8:00 a.m. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later confirmed that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death a homicide.
At the time of the incident, it was reported that an after-hours gathering was taking place outside the restaurant. Police indicated that the suspects fled the scene before they arrived. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, no arrests were made, and the investigation was ongoing. As of late 2025, there have been no publicly available updates regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in connection with the death of DaeVonn LeQuinn Howell. The case remains an unsolved homicide.
