In the quiet, affluent neighborhood of Chino Hills, California, the evening of July 29, 2026, was shattered by violence that would leave a family and community in shock. Shukur Aikebaer, a 60-year-old man, was at his home on Monteverde Drive when the power was intentionally cut. When he went outside to investigate the electrical panel, he was ambushed by two men, who shot him and then forced him into the trunk of their car.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots and screams, and the assailants sped away, triggering a police pursuit. The victim was an immigrant from China and a member of the local Uyghur community.
The suspects were identified as brothers Zhengfeng Bo, 67, and Jianquan Bo, 66, both from Irvine. The motive for this brutal crime appears to have stemmed from a soured business relationship between Zhengfeng Bo and Aikebaer, who were former business associates in commercial real estate. The chase ended less than two miles from Aikebaer's home, on Wandering Ridge Drive. What unfolded next was captured on home surveillance video and witnessed by deputies. After the vehicle stopped, Jianquan Bo exited the passenger side and surrendered to the deputies. Zhengfeng Bo, the driver, also got out of the car, but instead of surrendering, he walked to the trunk, opened it, and fired a gun into it, killing Aikebaer in front of the horrified deputies. In response, the deputies opened fire on Zhengfeng Bo, who was struck and killed at the scene.
In the aftermath of the shocking events, Jianquan Bo was taken into custody without incident and was booked on charges of murder and kidnapping. Prosecutors for San Bernardino County filed murder charges against him, with the special circumstance that the murder was committed during a kidnapping, making him eligible for life in prison without parole or the death penalty. This charge was based on the legal theory of felony murder, which holds that if a death occurs during the commission of a dangerous felony, all participants in that felony are responsible for the death.
