On the evening of August 31, 2022, a tragic incident cut short the life of 39-year-old Kenneth T. Wells, a Black/African American male from White Bear Township. The quiet of St. Paul's North End neighborhood was shattered around 10 p.m. by the sound of gunfire near the intersection of Rice Street and Manitoba Avenue. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Wells suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Paramedics fought to save his life, but his injuries were too
severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner later confirmed his identity and the cause of death. Wells' death marked the 24th homicide in St. Paul for that year.
The St. Paul Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Investigators interviewed witnesses and processed the evidence at the scene in an effort to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, no suspects have been identified or arrested in connection with the murder of Kenneth Wells. The case remains an open and active investigation as authorities continue to seek answers and justice for the victim and his family.
