Matthew Haden Samuels, a 42-year-old White/Caucasian male, served as the Sheriff of Greenwood County, Kansas. On the morning of January 19, 2005, he and two of his deputies arrived at a residence near the small town of Virgil to serve an arrest warrant. The primary target of the warrant was 23-year-old Scott Cheever. Inside the home, a tense situation quickly unfolded.
