On a late afternoon in Topeka, Kansas, on May 31, 2014, a group of young men were gathered at Freedom Valley Park, enjoying a game of basketball and spending time together in the parking lot. Among them was Germaul Rayton, a 20-year-old Black / African American male. The casual gathering took a tragic turn when a vehicle, described by witnesses as a red SUV, drove past the park.
