On September 27, 2013, Shonya Burnett, a 45-year-old woman from Chicago, was killed in a violent incident that took place in the Austin neighborhood on the city's West Side. Burnett was stabbed multiple times in the face and neck by Debra Jean Jones, age 54, during an argument that occurred just after midnight inside an apartment building on the 1100 block of North Mayfield Avenue. The assault led to Burnett being pronounced dead shortly after 1:20 a.m.
