On the evening of January 23, 2019, the life of 17-year-old Benjamin "Ben" Michael Work-Greco, a Caucasian male, was tragically cut short in his Overland Park, Kansas, apartment. The young man, who had recently moved into the residence in the 8000 block of Farley Street with his fiancée, Reagan Davis, died in her arms after being fatally shot. Just two weeks prior, the couple had taken the exciting step of starting a life together in their own place.
Earlier on that fateful day, Ben's mother, Amy Workman, had visited, bringing them food and sharing a loving embrace with her son, a memory that would become her last of him.
Ben was known for his upbeat and loving personality. He was a student at Olathe East High School, participating in an off-campus learning program that allowed him to work part-time at the Waterway Car Wash. He cherished spending time with his family, including his two older brothers, with whom he enjoyed camping and fishing. He also loved playing video games with friends and had a keen appreciation for fast cars. Above all, he was devoted to his fiancée and his family, expressing a desire to take care of them. His sudden and violent death left his loved ones devastated and searching for answers.
The investigation into Ben's death quickly moved forward. Neighbors reported hearing a commotion in the apartment and seeing two men fleeing down the stairs. Police determined that Ben had two visitors before a fight broke out, leading to the shooting. The motive appeared to be a robbery gone wrong. In the weeks that followed, three suspects were arrested and charged with first-degree felony murder in connection with the case. The individuals charged were 24-year-old Raymond T. Cherry, 21-year-old Alan Michael Hicks, and 17-year-old Juriah Sue Jones, all from nearby Olathe. Court documents later alleged that Ben was killed during an armed robbery or an attempt at one.
