On a Sunday afternoon, July 31, 2022, a 26-year-old Black male named Shaquille J. Jackson was fatally shot at a BP gas station in Overland Park, Kansas. The incident occurred shortly after 4:20 p.m. at the corner of Antioch Road and College Boulevard. First responders arrived to find Jackson with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
At the time of the shooting, police did not release any information about a suspect.
Shaquille, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, was born on January 1, 1996. He was known by friends and family as a loving person who loved to dance and was often the life of the party. He had graduated from Job Corps Excelsior Springs with certifications as a carpenter and scaffold builder and was working as a cabinet builder for Shamrock Cabinets. At the time of his death, he was engaged to be married. His passing was the fifth homicide in Overland Park that year.
Following an investigation into the shooting, authorities identified a suspect. Zarrell Semaj Finley, a 26-year-old from Kansas City, Missouri, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Shaquille Jackson's death. In July 2024, a Johnson County jury found Finley guilty of the charge. His sentencing was scheduled for August 15, 2024.
