In the early morning hours of October 6, 2019, tragedy struck at the Tequila KC bar in Kansas City, Kansas, forever altering the lives of many. Alfredo Calderon, a 29-year-old Hispanic male, was among the four individuals who lost their lives in a sudden and violent mass shooting. A devoted father to a young son and daughter, Calderon was remembered by his loved ones as a family man who would do anything for his children.
He was the owner of a heating and cooling business and was respected for his reliable work and excellent customer service. That night, Calderon had gone to the bar to watch a boxing match, an innocent bystander caught in a senseless act of violence.
The events leading to the fatal shooting reportedly began with a dispute at the bar earlier in the evening. Two men, later identified as Javier Alatorre and Hugo Villanueva-Morales, were involved in the altercation and left the establishment. They returned shortly after, armed with handguns, and opened fire inside the crowded bar. The chaotic scene left four people dead and five others wounded. Calderon's sister-in-law, who was also present, tragically discovered his body amidst the mayhem after crawling on the floor to safety.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement launched an intensive investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Javier Alatorre, then 23, was apprehended shortly after the incident. His alleged accomplice, Hugo Villanueva-Morales, 29, managed to flee and remained at large for over two months. A significant manhunt ensued, and Villanueva-Morales was eventually captured in Mexico in December 2019. Both men were subsequently charged with four counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Alfredo Calderon, Everardo Meza, Francisco Garcia Anaya, and Martin Rodriguez-Gonzalez.
