In the early morning hours of June 29, 2020, the life of 25-year-old Joshua Steele was tragically cut short in Wichita, Kansas. A male, he was at a friend's home in the 6900 block of East Ayesbury Circle with his girlfriend when a dispute over property erupted. The situation escalated when two men arrived at the residence, leading to a violent confrontation in the driveway.
During the altercation, several gunshots were fired, and Joshua was struck.
He was found unresponsive in the driveway when police arrived around 5:15 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene. The two men who had arrived at the home fled in a moving truck immediately after the shooting.
The investigation into Joshua's death led authorities to 37-year-old Zachary Lee Province. Province was arrested on Sunday, July 5, 2020, after he sought treatment for a gunshot wound at Wesley Medical Center. Upon his release from the hospital, he was taken into custody and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police identified Province as the sole suspect in the case. He had a history of prior convictions, including theft, aggravated battery, and narcotics possession.
