In the quiet neighborhood of the 800 block of Barnett Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, the afternoon of April 9, 2021, was shattered by violence. It was there that 58-year-old Kevin Rogers, a White/Caucasian male, was found dead outside his home from a single gunshot wound. Police were called to the scene shortly before 4:15 p.m. and discovered his body, marking a tragic end to his life. This incident was one of two fatal shootings to occur in the city on that same day.
The investigation into Rogers' death quickly led to a suspect. Curtis L. Stacker II, then 44 years old, was identified as the individual responsible. Stacker had reportedly fled the scene on foot before officers arrived, but his freedom was short-lived. He was apprehended by law enforcement a short time later, several blocks from the scene of the crime.
Following his arrest, Curtis L. Stacker II was charged with a string of serious felonies in connection with the death of Kevin Rogers. The charges included first-degree murder, attempted aggravated robbery, criminal possession of a firearm, and a probation violation. Stacker had previous convictions for aggravated battery and sexual battery. He was subsequently held at the Wyandotte County Jail on a $400,000 bond as the legal proceedings against him commenced.
