On a cool Sunday evening in Wichita, Kansas, the life of 16-year-old Brandi Williams, a Black female, was tragically cut short. On November 7, 2021, a gathering of adults and teenagers at a home in the 900 block of North Volutsia took a devastating turn. An argument erupted between Brandi, another 18-year-old female, and two teenage boys, aged 14 and 16.
The verbal dispute escalated horrifically when the two boys produced firearms and opened fire in the direction of the two girls.
Both were struck by the gunfire. Emergency services were called to the scene just before 10:30 p.m., where they found Brandi unresponsive in the front yard of the home. She was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. The 18-year-old victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was later released from the hospital.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Wichita police quickly identified and located the two juvenile suspects. The 14-year-old and 16-year-old males were taken into custody and, following interviews with investigators, were booked into the Juvenile Detention Facility on murder charges. The case was then prepared for presentation to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office to determine formal charges.
