In the winter of 1996, a senseless act of violence cut short the life of 14-year-old Damion Blocker. On the afternoon of January 19th, just as the final school bell echoed through the halls of the Winston Education Center in Southeast Washington, D.C., Damion was there to pick up his young 5-year-old cousin. An eighth-grader at Roper Middle School and a former student at Winston, he was a familiar and welcome face, often visiting with his former teachers.
