In the early hours of March 4, 2017, the life of 34-year-old Delonta Omar Alexander was tragically cut short in Washington, D.C. A 911 call just after 1 a.m. reported a man bleeding in the hallway of a building located in the 2700 block of Langston Place SE. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrived, they found Alexander unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital in a grave condition.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Delonta Alexander succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:42 that morning. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police had not identified a motive or any suspects. It was noted, however, that the Toyota Camry Solara he had been driving was stolen following the incident.
Delonta, known affectionately as 'Dewey' or 'Lil Dewey' to his loved ones, was a father to a ten-year-old daughter and two sons, aged five and four at the time of his death. He was remembered by his family as a loving father who worked tirelessly to provide for his children. A vigil was held where family and friends gathered to mourn the loss of a man they described as respectful and deeply connected to his community. As of late 2025, the investigation into Delonta Omar Alexander's death remains ongoing, with his case listed among the city's unsolved homicides. No arrests have been announced, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
