In the early moments of a Saturday morning in Washington, D.C., on October 6, 2018, the life of 26-year-old Marquis Jones was tragically cut short. Just after midnight, gunshots echoed in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE. When police arrived, they found Jones suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services responded to the scene, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
In the wake of his death, the Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation.
The search for who was responsible for Marquis Jones's death led investigators to 30-year-old Tondrick Murphy. He was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder while armed in connection with the shooting. Murphy was also charged with possession of a firearm during a crime of violence and unlawful possession of a firearm. The case proceeded through the court system, with a trial scheduled to take place in April 2022. The police department continues to ask for the public's help in gathering more information about the incident and offers a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for homicides in the District of Columbia.

On the evening of Friday, October 22, 2021, at approximately 7:52 pm, police responded to the sound of gunshots in the 5000 block of First Street, Northwest. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male who was unconscious and unresponsive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services confirmed that the victim showed no signs of life and he was later identified as Marquise Jones, of no fixed address. As of the latest available information, detectives from the Homicide Branch are still investigating this case, and no arrests have been announced. A substantial reward is being offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death.
