On a cold Saturday afternoon, January 26, 2019, the sound of gunshots shattered the quiet of the 4100 block of Hayes Street, Northeast in Washington, D.C. When police arrived at approximately 3:36 p.m., they discovered the body of 59-year-old Kevin Jerome Harrison. Emergency medical services personnel who responded to the scene found that he had sustained gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life.
Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch immediately began an investigation into the shooting death of the Northeast, D.C. resident. Thirty-nine-year-old Paul William Daniel of Greenbelt, Maryland, was taken into custody and subsequently charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed in connection with the killing of Kevin Jerome Harrison. The arrest brought a sense of progress to an investigation that had stretched on for almost twelve months, offering a potential path toward justice for Harrison and his loved ones. A judge later found probable cause to proceed with the case against Daniel.
