In the early morning hours of June 13, 2019, inside an apartment in the Tyler House complex on North Capitol Street NW in Washington, D.C., a fatal encounter unfolded. Twenty-four-year-old Devin Butler was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services. The incident took place shortly before 2 a.m. on the fourth floor of the building.
Hours after the shooting, police arrested 21-year-old George Malik Anderson of Northwest, D.C., in connection with the death.
Anderson was subsequently charged with second-degree murder while armed. While authorities did not immediately release a motive for the shooting, court documents later indicated that blood was found on the defendant's hands and on the weapon. During legal proceedings, a judge denied a defense motion to suppress the use of this blood evidence in the trial. At the time of his death, police records indicated that Devin Butler had no fixed address.
