In the early evening of Monday, January 27, 2020, tragedy struck in the Congress Heights neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C. Angus Houston, a 44-year-old male resident of the area, was fatally shot. The incident occurred at approximately 6:43 p.m. in the 1300 block of Congress Street, SE, just blocks away from the Congress Heights Metro Station.
Officers from the Seventh District of the Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Houston suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and transported him to a nearby hospital in an attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, all life-saving measures failed, and he was pronounced dead.
In the wake of the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation.
