In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in Southeast Washington, D.C., a tragedy unfolded that would cut short the life of a 28-year-old woman. On March 25, 2020, at approximately 3:17 a.m., Kriston Robinson was fatally shot while sitting inside a white Kia Forte in the 1600 block of 19th Street, SE. Another person was in the vehicle with her at the time of the attack but managed to escape without injury. First responders arrived at the scene to find Ms.
Robinson unconscious with a gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, her life could not be saved.
For more than three years, the case remained under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department. A breakthrough came on October 6, 2023, when the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended a suspect. Guy Johnson, a 56-year-old man from Southeast, D.C., was arrested and charged with first-degree murder while armed in connection with Ms. Robinson's death. This arrest marked a significant development in a case that had long sought answers and justice for the victim and her loved ones.
The legal proceedings against Guy Johnson moved forward, and in March 2025, a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder while armed, assault with the intent to kill while armed, and two counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. The evidence presented during the trial detailed how Johnson had fired multiple shots into the car occupied by Ms. Robinson and the other individual. In May 2025, Guy Johnson, then 57, was sentenced to 29 years in prison for the murder of Kriston Robinson. The sentencing brought a measure of closure to a case that had begun with a senseless act of violence more than five years earlier.
