In the early evening of September 17, 2020, a 24-year-old Black woman named Donika Simone Hawkins was fatally shot in Washington, D.C. The incident occurred at approximately 6:29 p.m. in the rear of the 1800 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast.
Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of gunshots in that area. They discovered Ms. Hawkins inside a vehicle in the 3500 block of 22nd Street, Southeast, suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C.
Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported her to a local hospital, but tragically, all life-saving efforts were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead. Investigators later determined that the shooting itself had taken place on Alabama Avenue.
The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the homicide of Donika Hawkins. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for her death. To date, authorities have not released any detailed descriptions of suspects, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the case. The investigation remains open, and police continue to seek assistance from the public.
