In the early morning hours of May 24, 2020, a gathering on a porch in Southeast Washington, D.C. took a fatal turn. Twenty-six-year-old Kayvon Kinney, a male resident of the area, was with his girlfriend, another man named Michael Austin, Austin's girlfriend, and her mother. The group was reportedly drinking and smoking together in the 1800 block of Gainesville Street when an argument erupted between Kinney and his girlfriend.
