In the pre-dawn hours of a summer Saturday in Washington, D.C., the life of 18-year-old Shaun Simmons was tragically cut short. On August 1, 2015, at approximately 4:23 a.m., gunshots shattered the quiet of the 1300 block of Savannah Street in Southeast D.C., leaving the young man with multiple wounds. When officers from the Seventh District arrived, they found him lying in the street, unconscious and unresponsive.
