Beverly Gritzmaker, aged 46, was found dead on April 20, 2014, in the Kishwaukee River near the Kishwaukee Gorge Forest Preserve in Rockford, Illinois. Her body was discovered by a passerby who observed what appeared to be a body in the water. Emergency responders, including the Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputies and Fire Department personnel, recovered her body from the river, and it was later turned over to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.
