On a warm evening just before the Fourth of July, a burst of violence shattered the night in Southeast Washington, D.C., claiming the life of 20-year-old Jordyn Simmons. A resident of Hyattsville, Maryland, she was a young woman whose life was just beginning to unfold. The incident occurred on Friday, July 3, 2020, when the sound of gunfire echoed through the 1900 block of 18th Street, Southeast.
