On the evening of April 4, 2021, in the 1800 block of 24th Street, Northeast, a dispute between childhood friends escalated into a fatal encounter. Dontra Harris, a 33-year-old male, was shot and killed in what authorities described as an ambush. The incident began with a roadside argument between Harris and his longtime friend, Jean Paul Kearney. Following the verbal altercation, the two men went their separate ways.
