In the spring of 2021, on the evening of May 14th, tragedy struck in the Judiciary Square neighborhood of Northwest Washington, D.C. Leonard Turner, a 27-year-old male from Southeast D.C., was gunned down in the 400 block of 2nd Street, Northwest. At approximately 9:29 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting and discovered Turner suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Leonard Turner's death led to an initial arrest a few months later. On August 16, 2021, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended 28-year-old William Davenport of Northeast, D.C. He was charged with First Degree Murder while Armed in connection with Turner's shooting. The case, which had been considered closed after this arrest, saw a new development years later.
Nearly three years after the fatal shooting, a second suspect was taken into custody. On February 20, 2024, 53-year-old Violet Davenport, of Northwest, was arrested by U.S. Marshals. She was also charged with First Degree Murder while Armed under a D.C. Superior Court indictment. This second arrest marked a significant advancement in the ongoing efforts to bring justice for the death of Leonard Turner.
