In the early morning hours of June 13, 2021, a grim discovery was made in the 4700 block of Benning Road, Southeast in Washington, D.C. At approximately 6:03 a.m., officers from the Sixth District responded to a call about a man down. The man, later identified as 47-year-old Tekoar Jennette of Camp Springs, Maryland, was found with an unspecified injury. He was a male.
Jennette was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
It was there that the full extent of his injuries became clear; he was suffering from a gunshot wound. For more than two years, he fought the devastating consequences of that single act of violence. Despite all medical efforts, his battle came to an end on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, when he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Following his death, the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy. The examination confirmed that the cause of death was complications from the gunshot wound he had sustained over two years prior. The manner of his death was officially ruled a homicide, launching a renewed focus on the investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch.
Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting on that June morning. However, there have been no public announcements regarding any potential suspects or arrests in the case. The investigation remains open and ongoing. To encourage community assistance, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Mr. Jennette's death.
