On a warm summer evening in Washington, D.C., six-year-old Nyiah Courtney was walking home with her family in the Congress Heights neighborhood of Southeast D.C. on July 16, 2021. The night was shattered by a barrage of bullets from a passing vehicle at the intersection of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenues.
