On July 19, 2022, 33-year-old Audora Williams was found inside her residence on the 2900 block of Knox Place, Southeast in Washington, D.C., having sustained numerous gunshot wounds. Emergency services responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 1:24 pm and found Williams deceased at the scene. An autopsy later revealed that she had been shot 52 times.
The tragic event unfolded while her children were present in the home.
The investigation into the death of the mother of five quickly identified her intimate partner, Wonell A. Jones, Jr., then 34 years old, as the primary suspect. Authorities revealed the homicide was domestic in nature. Prior to the incident, court records indicated that Williams had an intimate relationship with Jones and that he had a history of violence and had made numerous threats against her. Williams had previously filed a police report against Jones.
Following the shooting, Jones fled the scene, prompting a manhunt. On August 29, 2022, he was located and arrested in Jacksonville, Florida, by members of the United States Marshals Florida and Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force. Jones was subsequently extradited back to Washington, D.C., in October 2022 and formally charged with First Degree Murder while Armed. During legal proceedings in March 2024, a D.C. Superior Court Judge found probable cause for the first-degree murder charge, citing the high number of gunshot wounds as evidence of premeditation.
