In the early moments of a Wednesday morning in Washington, D.C., a fatal encounter unfolded inside a convenience store that would end the life of 27-year-old Malcolm Johnson. On July 21, 2021, Johnson was in a store in the 2200 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Southeast, when he was approached by Rondez Tibbs.
