On the evening of September 21, 2021, Angela Washington, a 41-year-old special police officer, was shot and killed while on duty in Southeast Washington, D.C. A mother of four and a grandmother, Washington was in her uniform guarding the Oak Hill apartment complex in the 3300 block of 10th Place, SE, when the fatal incident occurred around 8:42 p.m.
Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the scene after hearing gunshots and found Washington deceased.
At the time of her death, Angela Washington was working for the Metro Special Police, a private security company with commissioned officers. An initial investigation led police to search for a white Toyota Camry with dark, tinted windows that was seen in the area.
Months later, in March 2022, an arrest was made in connection with the slaying. Jadohn Bracey, then 22 years old, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. Subsequently, his brother, Jayden Bracey, was also arrested and charged. Both brothers face charges including first-degree premeditated murder while armed and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence for their alleged involvement in Angela Washington's death. The case against the two suspects is ongoing.
