On the evening of September 21, 2021, Angela Washington, a 41-year-old special police officer, was shot and killed while on duty in Southeast Washington, D.C. A mother of four and a grandmother, Washington was in her uniform guarding the Oak Hill apartment complex in the 3300 block of 10th Place, SE, when the fatal incident occurred around 8:42 p.m. Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the scene after hearing gunshots and found Washington deceased.
