In the autumn of 2021, a grim discovery was made in the 2000 block of Savannah Place, Southeast Washington, D.C. On the afternoon of October 14th, at approximately 4:18 p.m., police responded to a report of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, they found 18-year-old Noel Prince Nicol, a resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, inside a vehicle, unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, but tragically, Nicol showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead.

The investigation into the death of the young man, who was a male, spanned several months. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch diligently worked the case. Their efforts eventually led them to a suspect. In May of the following year, on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, apprehended 21-year-old Jordan Jones, also of Silver Spring, Maryland.

Following his arrest, Jones was transported to the Homicide Branch for questioning and was subsequently charged with first-degree murder while armed in connection with the shooting death of Noel Prince Nicol. The arrest brought a significant development to a case that had left a community searching for answers. Jones later pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him, which included first-degree premeditated murder while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was held without bail as the legal proceedings continued.
