In the vibrant H Street corridor of Northeast Washington, D.C., a night out turned fatal for 23-year-old Jaydon Parson. On the evening of Tuesday, February 18, 2025, police were called to the 700 block of H Street, NE, shortly before 10 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Parson, a resident of Northwest, D.C., suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate efforts of first responders, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the young man, identified as Jaydon Parson, revealed that the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute that began inside a local bar. According to court documents, a verbal altercation occurred between Parson and two other individuals. Surveillance footage captured Parson leaving the establishment, followed by the two suspects. As he attempted to get into his vehicle, he was reportedly pulled out by one of the men. A struggle ensued, and Parson was shot multiple times.
In the months following the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department conducted a thorough investigation. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect, and on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 42-year-old Dione Dorn of Northwest, D.C. Dorn was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder while Armed in connection with Parson's death.
Court proceedings have revealed further details about the case against Dorn. Prosecutors have presented evidence including CCTV footage of the altercation and the shooting, as well as cell phone data placing Dorn in the vicinity at the time of the incident. A detective testified that Dorn was identified in surveillance footage by his brother, partly due to a distinctive red outfit he was wearing. During a preliminary hearing, a judge found probable cause to proceed with the murder charge against Dorn. The case continues to move through the legal system, with discussions in court also focusing on Dorn's significant health issues, which have led to considerations of his pre-trial confinement conditions.
