On a Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C., the life of 19-year-old Jerry Hardy III was tragically cut short. The young Black man was fatally shot on June 23, 2024, in the 200 block of 37th Place, Southeast. At approximately 2:11 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting and discovered Hardy on the sidewalk, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch is actively
investigating the shooting, which has left a community shaken. While the circumstances and motive behind the killing remain under investigation, authorities have appealed to the public for assistance. Detectives are seeking to identify and apprehend the individual or individuals responsible for this violent act that unfolded in broad daylight. The investigation is ongoing, and as of now, the case remains unsolved.
In connection with the homicide, police have announced they are searching for a gray Nissan sedan with silver mirrors, tinted windows, and a Maryland license plate. No arrests have been made in the case, and a description of any suspect or suspects has not been released to the public.
To encourage potential witnesses to come forward, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Jerry Hardy III. Law enforcement officials and the community continue to seek answers and justice for the untimely loss of the young man.
