On a cold December evening, the sounds of gunshots shattered the peace in the 2200 block of Mount View Place, Southeast. When officers from the Seventh District arrived at the scene around 9:32 p.m. on Friday, December 23, 2016, they found two men who had been shot. Both were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. One of the men, 29-year-old Damian Keith Thomas of Northeast, DC, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The second victim was left in critical condition.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of Damian Keith Thomas. Detectives sought help from the public to gather information about the incident. The department offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. To date, the case remains open, and the police continue to ask for anyone with information to come forward.

In a separate and unrelated incident, another Washington, D.C. man, Deon Damien Thomas, 31, was fatally shot on the evening of July 12, 2025. The shooting occurred around 8:20 p.m. in the 5100 block of Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill, Maryland. When Prince George's County police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Deon Damien Thomas outside with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the location.
Detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately began an investigation into the motive and to identify who was responsible. They released surveillance video showing a suspect walking away from the scene right after the shooting and offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Their investigation led them to identify 45-year-old Daniel William Jackson of Washington, D.C., as the suspect. On August 15, 2025, the Fugitive Unit located and arrested Jackson. He has since been charged with first- and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges, and is being held without bond.
