On a Tuesday evening in Washington, D.C., a burst of gunfire shattered the routine of Georgia Avenue. It was January 3, 2023, just before 6 p.m., when at least two individuals emerged from a vehicle stuck in traffic and opened fire on a group of men gathered on the sidewalk. In the wake of the chaos, 33-year-old Benjie Byers, a male resident of Northwest D.C., lay dead at the scene.
