In the evening hours of a Tuesday in the nation's capital, a young man's life was cut short by gunfire. Vincent Robison, a 20-year-old male from Southeast, DC, was shot and killed on February 15, 2022. The fatal incident occurred around 8:28 p.m. in the 3800 block of 9th Street, Southeast. When officers from the Seventh District arrived at the scene, they found Robison suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services responded but found no signs of life.
For months, the case remained under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch. Then, on November 22, 2022, a significant development was announced. Pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, authorities apprehended 21-year-old Devin Washington, also of Southeast, DC. Washington was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder While Armed for his alleged role in Robison's death.
The story took a complicated turn during court proceedings. The lead detective on the case testified that Robison had sustained four gunshot wounds, two to his back, one to his abdomen, and one to his head. In a surprising twist, the accused, Devin Washington, took the stand and claimed that he and Robison had been best friends since they were 12 years old. Washington testified that they were walking to his car when a gunshot rang out, and he saw his friend fall to the ground. He identified another individual by name as the person who was holding a gun. Prosecutors, however, pointed to Washington's actions after the shooting, including Instagram messages sent to Robison as if he were unaware of what had just happened, suggesting an attempt to create a false narrative. They also highlighted that Washington was on release for a prior assault conviction at the time of the murder.
