On Monday, August 1, 2022, in the 1500 block of F Street, Northeast, gunshots shattered the night, leaving one man dead and several others wounded. The male victim, a resident of Southeast, DC, was fatally injured in the incident that unfolded at approximately 8:28 p.m.
Responding to the report of a shooting, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Fifth District
arrived at a chaotic scene where they located six adult men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were quick to arrive, attending to the injured. Five of the victims were transported to local hospitals to be treated for injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. For Lance Melvin, however, help arrived too late. He was pronounced dead at the scene, his life extinguished in a sudden act of violence.
