In the early morning hours of December 26, 2014, a tragic event unfolded at a Walgreens on West Cheyenne Avenue in Las Vegas, forever altering the lives of those present. Antonio Isnit, a 58-year-old White male employee, was shot and killed during a robbery orchestrated by a former coworker. The man responsible, 25-year-old Jin Ackerman, had entered the store armed and with his face obscured by surgical masks.
Ackerman, who had previously worked at a different Walgreens location, first
encountered a female clerk. He brandished a 9mm handgun and forced her to handcuff herself before he proceeded to empty the store's safe, stealing several thousand dollars. Shortly after the robbery, Isnit returned from his lunch break, tragically crossing paths with Ackerman. Recognizing his former colleague, Ackerman uttered, "Sorry Tony, but you know me," before shooting Isnit multiple times.
After Ackerman fled the scene, the female clerk, who had managed to free herself, immediately called for help. Police arrived to find Isnit with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation quickly pointed to Ackerman as the primary suspect. Within hours, SWAT officers located and arrested him at a residence in the Summerlin area. During the arrest, authorities recovered a handgun believed to be the murder weapon.
Ackerman was charged with murder, kidnapping, burglary, and robbery. He ultimately pleaded guilty to nine felony counts, including the first-degree murder of Antonio Isnit. In November 2017, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for his role in the robbery and fatal shooting.
