In the early hours of March 8, 2015, David Elliott Ferreira, a 29-year-old Caucasian male, was with two friends in the desert northwest of Las Vegas. The group was engaged in target practice at a well-known impromptu shooting area called Mud Hills. Shortly after 12:30 a.m., a tragic accident occurred.
A bullet, fired from one of their guns, ricocheted off a rock or a steel target and struck Ferreira in the chest.
His friends immediately tried to render aid, but his injuries were too severe. David Elliott Ferreira died at the scene in the desert landscape he had gone to for recreation.
The Clark County Coroner's Office later confirmed that Ferreira's cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest and officially ruled it an accident. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated the incident and determined that neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected to be contributing factors. As the death was deemed accidental, no charges were filed, and there were no arrests or suspects in the case.
