Paul Joseph Durkin, a 34-year-old male police officer with the Youngstown Police Department, was tragically shot and killed on September 22, 1987. Patrolman Durkin was killed in the line of duty after stopping a man on suspicion of petty theft. The suspect, who was later apprehended the same day, shot Durkin through the window of his patrol car with a .22 caliber handgun before Durkin could exit his vehicle.
