In the predawn hours of September 22, 2015, the quiet of a central Las Vegas neighborhood was shattered by the discovery of a man's body. Derrick LaMar Patterson, a 46-year-old Black/African American man, was found shot to death in a driveway near the intersection of Owens Avenue and D Street. Police were called to the scene just after 1 a.m. and found Patterson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
