In the early morning hours of July 24, 2016, the quiet of a Las Vegas apartment complex parking lot was broken by the discovery of a young man's body. Antoine Toma Williams, a 21-year-old male from Henderson, Nevada, was found deceased at the Hampton Court Apartments on Swenson Street. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his head, a violent end to a life that his mother, LaSaundra Dameron, would later say had taken a wrong turn despite his good heart.
The scene offered few immediate clues, but it was clear that a heated argument had preceded the fatal shot, as witnesses reported hearing a dispute before seeing several individuals flee the area.
The investigation into Antoine's death quickly revealed a complex and tragic series of events that had unfolded in the hours prior. Earlier that same day, Antoine and three associates, identified as 20-year-olds Abdulkadir Mohamud and Jordan Price, along with another individual, had attended a party near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In a turn of events that would ultimately seal Antoine's fate, the group allegedly returned to the residence after the party, armed and intending to rob the occupants. They reportedly restrained the homeowners and stole a variety of items, including a handgun, jewelry, and personal identification.
The hours following the home invasion proved to be fatal for Antoine. A few hours after the robbery, his body was discovered in the nearby apartment complex. In a grim twist of irony, a wallet belonging to one of the victims of the home invasion was found in his possession. This discovery provided a crucial link for investigators, connecting the homicide to the earlier robbery. The investigation suggested that a heated argument had erupted between Antoine and his associates following the home invasion, culminating in his death.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department identified Abdulkadir Mohamud and Jordan Price as the primary suspects. On August 1, 2016, a multijurisdictional task force apprehended both men without incident, initially on charges related to the home invasion. While in custody at the Clark County Detention Center, their charges were amended on August 8, 2016, to include murder with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with Antoine's death. For Antoine's mother, the arrests brought a small measure of solace, but also profound confusion and heartache, as she revealed that her son had been friends with the very men accused of taking his life. She acknowledged that her son had made some poor choices but maintained that he had never hurt anyone. Detectives also informed her that a third suspect might still be at large.
