Willie Parker, a 32-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot in North Las Vegas, Nevada, in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 23, 2017. The shooting occurred inside a car occupied by several friends who were on their way home from a party. After being shot, Parker was left on a roadway median in the 3100 block of East Tropical Parkway, near North Pecos Road.
None of the individuals in the vehicle rendered aid or contacted emergency services.
A passerby discovered Parker's body and alerted the authorities. An investigation by the North Las Vegas Police Department led them to a nearby home where Parker lived with his roommate, 23-year-old Jeffery Moore. Moore was taken into custody less than two blocks from where Parker's body was found. During questioning, Moore gave investigators multiple conflicting stories about what had transpired.
Initially, Moore claimed the shooting was an accident and that he had no intention of harming his friend. However, his actions following the shooting contradicted this claim. He failed to call 911, instructed other witnesses to leave the scene, and did not cooperate with the initial police investigation. Furthermore, he admittedly misled investigators by fabricating a story and telling his friends what to say when questioned. A search of the home he shared with Parker revealed bloody clothes in a washing machine. Moore was subsequently arrested and faced charges of murder, discharging a firearm within a vehicle, and destroying evidence.
