On January 2, 2025, the body of 29-year-old Navdeep Oberoi, a male of Indian descent, was discovered near the railroad tracks in the vicinity of West Owens Avenue and Stocker Street in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Responding to a report of a deceased person, Metro officers arrived at the scene and confirmed the man's identity. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The following day, an autopsy performed by the medical examiner revealed that Oberoi had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the
abdomen. Based on these findings, his death was officially ruled a homicide. The news of his violent death sent shockwaves through the Southern Nevada Indian community, who were already mourning another recent loss.
Following a swift investigation into the killing, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detectives identified 30-year-old Connor Demots as the primary suspect. Demots was subsequently arrested by patrol officers and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He faces a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon in connection with Navdeep Oberoi's death.
