Jennifer Marie "Jenny" Parks, a 35-year-old Caucasian female, was a vibrant and dedicated kindergarten teacher whose life was tragically cut short on October 1, 2017, in Las Vegas, Nevada. A resident of Palmdale, California, she was a mother of two children, a son named Bryce and a daughter, Lea, and was married to her husband, Bobby Parks. Known for her ambitious spirit and the loving atmosphere she created in her classroom at Anaverde Elementary School, Jenny had a profound impact on her
students and the community. Friends and family remember her as a devoted mother, a cherished friend, and the "heartbeat" of her school.
On that fateful evening, Jenny and her husband were attending the Route 91 Harvest country music festival, a three-day event on the Las Vegas Strip. They were enjoying the final night of the festival when a gunman, perched on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, opened fire on the crowd of approximately 22,000 concertgoers. In the midst of the chaos and panic that ensued, Jenny was struck in the head by a bullet and died at the scene. Her husband, Bobby, was also wounded in the arm and finger during the attack but survived his injuries.
The perpetrator of this horrific act was identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock of Mesquite, Nevada. The investigation that followed revealed that Paddock had meticulously planned the attack, bringing an arsenal of firearms to his hotel suite. He fired over 1,000 rounds into the crowd, resulting in the deadliest mass shooting by a lone gunman in modern U.S. history. After carrying out the massacre, Paddock was found deceased in his hotel room from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
As Paddock acted alone and took his own life, there were no arrests of any other suspects in connection with the shooting. A comprehensive 10-month investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department found no evidence of a conspiracy or a second gunman. The motive behind Paddock's violent rampage remains officially undetermined, leaving a painful void of unanswered questions for the families of the victims, including the loved ones of Jenny Parks. Her death, along with the many others that night, left a lasting scar on the nation and a deep sense of loss within her community, where she is remembered as a ray of sunshine whose absence created a tremendous void.
